Ron & Russell were great to work with and very innovative and spontanious in the studio, so I was confident that my idea for this shoot would result in some interesting images. I gave them the flash-lights and told them to make a series of shapes and I then triggered the lights when they looked interesting

This session was for the cover of the "Terminal Jive" album and was great fun to shoot. I was working with an old friend and a marvellous designer called Pearce Marchbank and he had the idea of taking Ron & Russell to various locations and shooting crazy, spontanious moments that the guys would stage in an old fashioned press photography style

Darts were a fabulous 9 piece Doo-Wop revival band who had several top 20 hits in the 70s & 80s. This shot was staged in a dressing room at the Odeon Hammersmith and was trying to recreate the moment after a band had come off stage

Kiki Dee is a wonderful singer and a lovely person who I was lucky to work with on several occasions - this session art directed by my old friend David Costa was shot on a freezing evening outside Elton John's house for the cover of her album "Kiki Dee" which was released in 1977

This is another shot from the same session that was used as the image inside the gatefold cover - it was a lovely set-up but absolutely freezing cold and we had broken the ice on the lake at Elton John's house to get Kiki and the punt into the right position, we told her that we had the shot and were leaving her and this was her reaction!

Smokie were a great band who I worked with throughout the 70s and shot this portrait for the cover of their second album called "Midnight Cafe" - I shot the covers for five of their albums released in the 70s

Sister Rose was a band built around singer Rose Banks who is the sister of Funk star Sly Stone - this shoot was made in Los Angeles at the famous downtown landmark the Bradbury Building and was shot for the cover of an album but was never used

I had first met Cliff back in 1958 when he was making the film Expresso Bongo which had been written by my father and was delighted to work with him on many occasions through the 70s and into the 80s including shooting this for the cover of the US version of his album "Every Face Tells a Story" as well as four other album covers
