I was asked to photograph Adam Ant at home out of costume for a magazine - his house typifyed the interior design ethos of the time, all rag-roll and too much fabric

This is a monochrome version of the shoot I did for the band's first album "Pelican West" - all a bit "Brideshead Revisited" which had been a huge hit on TV the same year

I shot several sessions with Nick when he was in Haircut 100 and also worked with him on a couple of solo shoots - he was always very good to work with

I had worked with Richard & Linda on their "Sunny Vistas" album back in 1979 and was delighted to work with them again in 1981 - I always loved this portrait for its "Renaissance" feel

This shot is from the "Shoot Out the Lights" album cover shoot - Linda was heavily pregnant at the time and didn't what to be seen full length so I shot some portraits and made a print of one of them to hang in the set - the art director was my good friend Bill Smith

I had met Hank on the set of my fathers film "Expresso Bongo" back in the late 50s and had always loved his playing, so I was thrilled to be asked to shoot the cover for his "Words & Music" album. Hank was almost as famous for his glasses as for being a great guitarist and I wanted to try an link them in this portrait so I made a light-box out of a guitar case which gave me a perfect guitar shape in his specs!

Liverpool born Pete Wylie created so many versions of his bands that I can't really remember which version these portraits of him with Carl Washington were, but they looked great and were fabulous to work with

Sector 27 had been formed by Tom Robinson but he had left by the time I did this publicity shot of the three remaing members - they were very stylish in a New Wave Poseur way with a touch of the Mississippi Gambler thrown in.....

Working with ABC was always a creative delight - they were serious about image and full of ideas - this shot is from the session for a single sleeve for "All Of My Heart/Overture"

Shooting the cover for "Lexicon of Love" was great fun - we had to shoot it in two parts joined at the curtains because it was too wide for my studio! The band were so shocked to discover that I didn't have any Gold Discs on my walls that they promised to give me one if this album was a success - it was huge, going Platinum in several countries and they were true to their word and gave me a Gold Disc......

I didn't get the opportunity to work with many European stars, so was very happy to be asked to shoot with the great Italian artist Lucio Battisti for the cover of his album "E GiĆ " - he had a strong vision which we had great fun in bringing to life, the primary element of which was that he should hardly be seen and the actual cover is just his feet! He was a lovely man and very funny - we laughed a lot....

I had never worked with Quo before and was very pleased to finally work with them for this publicity shoot. Each member of the band had their own roadie who arrived first with a box of goodies for each of the lads - it was very Rock & Roll!

I had never imagined that I would work with the Stones again after their 1967 split with their manager Andrew Loog Oldham but the London Observer Magazine knowing about my history with the band asked if they would be agreeable to me shooting them for an article about their forthcoming World tour, and they agreed.....

They were rehearsing at a "secret" venue, which turned out to be Shepperton Film Studios, and the palaver that we had to go through to get there was ridiculous, but after a day of waiting we were summoned to meet in a layby and were led to the location. Initially the band were warm and friendly and it felt really good to be back with them, but slowly the atmosphere changed and when I returned the next night to shoot the magazine cover......

For the first night of the shoot I had been told to not use flash or any other lighting other than the ghastly studio lights, and I had brought with me a very fast film called GAF 500 which I thought would work well. However, I had planned to shoot a posed group shot for the cover using my own lights, but when we arrived it was quite clear that it wasn't going to happen. To this day I will never understand what went wrong but they didn't talk to me and were thoroughly uncooperative to the point that it was clear I wasn't getting my cover shot!
