EPISODE ONE: 'On Camera' of ICON: Music Through The Lens starts tonight at 9pm EST on @pbs. Please check local channels for listings 🇺🇸.

In this episode, we explore what makes an image iconic? How photographic images of Snoop Dogg, Bob Dylan and Madonna influence perceptions and how they communicate, through themes of interaction, technical skill, occasional luck and cultural impact. The episode goes back to Robert Johnson to find the genesis of music photographs that demonstrate the incredible power of a frozen moment in the time. Other highlights include Kevin Cummins on Joy Davidson, myself talking about Jimi Hendrix and Rachael Wright on Billie Eilish trying not to be beautiful.

Having photographed PP Arnold @pp_arnold for her first two albums recorded back in the '60s, I was absolutely thrilled to work with her again in 2019. We were shooting for her fantastic new album called "The New Adventures of PP Arnold" produced by the great Steve Craddock. This is one of my favourite shots from that session.

Suzi Quatro @suziquatroreal kicked ass and in 1973 that was something special! This image of Suzi and the band was used to advertise their first single "Can the Can". The band were always great to work with and Suzi was definitely the leader of the pack!
